RIDGECREST, CA - Kern County firefighters and Ridgecrest police responded shortly after 4 PM Saturday afternoon to a structure fire in the 400 block of East Dana Avenue near College Heights in Ridgecrest. Firefighters arrived to find the 1800 square foot single story structure approximately 50% involved in flames. Firefighters from the Naval Air Weapons Station at China Lake were also called in to assist with the blaze. According to neighbors, the homeowners were away for a weekend at the lake when the fire broke out. Firefighters managed to save nearly $100000 in property with an estimated loss of $150000 to the structure. No injuries were reported, although a dog did perish in the fire authorities said. The cause of the fire is under investigation. July 30, 2011
